The Vault
Attendants met with like minded individuals over drinks and conversation at the first Inter-Society Social of the year. The societies provided drinks to all. Societies in attendance included: King’s Investment Banking Society, King’s College London Business Club, King’s Real Estate and Property Society, King’s Consulting and Financial Advisory Society, King’s Economics and Finance Society, KCL Legal, Commercial & Investment Society, King’s Women in Finance Society.

During this “mini-conference”, a variety of successful real estate start-ups in London were introduced (from commercial and residential property to a legal advisory firm), for attendants to network with the entrepreneurs and to consider alternative careers paths in the industry. The companies attending were Lowe Cost Guardians, Ibrahimi & Associates, Roomor, Unmortgage, and Goodlord.

Introduction to Fund Management with CBRE

King’s Real Estate & Property Society hosted CBRE Global Investors for an introduction to fund management talk. CBRE Global Investors is one of the world’s largest real estate investment management firms with $86.6 billion AUM. There was a formal presentation given by Sasha Noble, Director (Fund Manager), Sam Denning (Senior Associate), and Sophie Pearce (Analyst) followed by an interactive Q&A session

London Business School Conference

Students from KREPS had the opportunity to listen to a keynote speech from Mat Oakly (Savills) on the macro-view of the international real estate market in 2017. Furthermore, there were two panel discussions and Q&As with speakers from Palmer Capital, Towers Watson, CBRE Investment Partners and JLL, KFH Capital, Standard Chartered Bank respectively. Finally, the event was concluded with a networking session.

The Directors of the KCL Estates gave a talk about the development of the University Real Estate. Ralph Luck and Nick O’Donnell give an overview of last year’s transactions that King’s has completed as well as some of the ongoing and future projects. The Directors also presented some of the most challenging cases they worked on while encouraging attendants to participate in the discussion.

Attendants heard from all aspects of the property industry, from surveyors to solicitors. KREPS hosted the JLL and CBRE (real estate consultancies), Schroders (asset management), and Barclays (bank). A Panel of recent graduates in the property market gave a taste of what it is like working in the industry and how to break into it. The panel was followed by networking and a chance to ask questions to the panellists and ask them about their firm’s internships & graduate scheme programs.

International Quarter Visit with Lendlease

Westfield Shopping Centre
Students were given a tour of the International Quarter development in the Olympic Park, Stratford by Lend Lease. The International Quarter is a 4,000,000 sq ft office development with the HeadQuarters of TfL, Financial Conduct Authority & others. Students were given an introduction to Project by Lendlease, followed by a site tour and the Graduate Opportunities at Lend Lease.

The Warwick
Students met the team at our first social of the year at ‘The Warwick’. They were able to find out more about how the society can help them pursue individual career ambitions and how they could develop their CV for the lucrative Real Estate and Property market. Students also find out more about the events which were planned throughout the academic year and built a personal relationship with committee members.
