Industry 1.01 Real Estate & Property

Industry 1.01 was specifically tailored for people with different backgrounds in Real Estate and Property. Whether your interest in Real Estate stems from Netflix’s “Selling Sunset” or having numerous industry-related internships up your sleeve, Industry 1.01 has helped students expand on their knowledge of the Real Estate, Construction and Management & Development industries. Discussed were the basics for students to efficiently participate in our future events, while also elaborating on how one could get into the sector and build his or her career.

This event was for everyone with an interest, be it students wanting to learn more about the industry to those ready to make their applications and wanting to network. The panelists had diverse backgrounds and provided invaluable insight about their career journey, the companies they work at, as well as tips on job applications! Everything ended with an interesting Q & A session. We were delighted to share our four speakers who were all alumni of King’s College London and work at some of the most prestigious companies in the industry.

Knight Frank : Build Your Potential

Knight Frank is a global property consultancy with 19,000 people in over 60 territories. The session was led by Kate Doyle, Early Careers Manager and Samantha Sommerville, Early Careers Officer. The Knight Frank Early Careers team have over 10 years combined experience recruiting development across Real Estate and Professional Services; with specialist knowledge on assessment and selection, ensuring the highest calibre of candidates. The Early Careers Team were joined by current Knight Frank Graduates that joined the Valuations scheme in London. The graduates have had rotations in different teams and were keen to share their experience with all attendees.

Green Practices in Real Estate

An interesting talk about sustainability in the Real Estate sector! We had a panel of three speakers talking about their experience, the importance of green practices for Real Estate, and current/expected sustainability trends. Our guest speakers came from various professional backgrounds allowing attendees to get a broader understanding of how the Real Estate sector tackles one of the most pressing issues of our generation. 

The Northbank Bid Panel

The King’s Real Estate and Property Society (KREPS) and KCL Geography Society hosted an exclusive talk by speakers from The Northbank BID on how they are working to transform the West End into a vibrant 24-hour destination through an ambitious programme of initiatives designed to complement the area’s impressive cultural, entertainment and corporate assets.

The Northbank Team has been the biggest pusher for pedestrianizing the Strand between King’s College London’s Strand Building and Bush House buildings in order to create a more walkable and pedestrian-friendly zone.

Derwent London

Derwent London is the largest London-focused real estate investment trust (REIT). This event focused on the current RE market and how Covid-19 has influenced investment, operation, and leasing strategies. The event included property presentations of Derwent’s past and current projects from speakers with leading roles in Derwent London’s Architecture, Leasing and Building operations. By the end, attendees have gained an invaluable insight as to how a leading London-based Real Estate and Property Investment business runs. Derwent London owns and runs a portfolio of 5.6 million sq ft of commercial real estate in central London, valued at 5.4bn as of 30 June 2020. This makes Derwent the largest London-focused real estate investment trust (REIT).

Real Estate Trends in the UK

“Where to invest in the Real Estate market?” If this question is of interest to you, you would have loved attending the Real Estate Trends in the UK event! You would have learned from three real estate professionals about the near future of the UK property market, and gotten an idea of the current trends affecting it and their possible consequences. We were very happy to announce the three speakers for this event are:
